I found a webpage that outlines the month-by-month weather averages by NOAA. Click the link, and you will need to scroll down to the bottom to read about San Diego in December. As far at it being "HOT" in December, the answer is no. Way too cold to enjoy jumping in the water.

However, a vacation home will likely have at least some view of the ocean, or some sort of body of water. Sunsets will still be pretty awesome, even in December.
